Ballathie House Hotel Tripadvisor Reviews

The Hotel's Press Reviews

“This Scottish stronghold benefits from a glorious position on the banks of the River Tay … it enjoys the most picturesque of settings. The Sportsman’s Lodges set away from the main hotel buildings are undeniably useful for early starts, looking after the dogs and access to the vehicles.”

- Will Hetherington, Shooting Gazette, July 2010

"Set in the mild wilds of rural Perthshire, the Ballathie is a turreted mansion complete with majestic gardens.  It sells itself as a plush, old world country retreat and does not disappoint on the promise......"

The Sunday Herald, 9 May 2010 (Full Article)

With soaring turrets, roaring fires, vivid, lush gardens and exceptional food, this Perthshire hotel is a fairytale made real...The four-star baronial house is one of the region’s top country house retreats, and a perfect starting place for exploring one of the most gorgeous parts of Scotland....The hotel is also an inspired, romantic setting for a wedding – a fact that has not escaped the many savvy couples who have taken advantage of its wedding package

This romantic Edwardian mansion – complete with fairy-tale twin turrets – is an impressive four-star hotel just 90 minutes from both Glasgow and Edinburgh. But, blissfully, the only traffic you’ll see during your stay will be wooden dinghies ferrying tweed-clad fishermen up and down the River Tay, which runs  hrough the hotel’s gardens...
From the dining room, you can enjoy panoramic scenes of the river and the hotel's exquisite lawn...
The food has been awarded two AA red rosettes and is something of a local institution... the wine list is quite magnificent...
Sitting at breakfast, looking out on the river, the city felt very far away. Soothed by the hum of the little fishing boats, I really didn’t want to return to its hustle and bustle. If you want to escape the stresses of city life, head for the hills and breathe some fresh air into your lungs in the perfect surroundings of Ballathie House Hotel.

Ballathie House Hotel started celebrating New Year early after it was described in a top travel guide as “probably the best place to stay” around Perth and “a true country-house hotel that you fall in love with.
The 2010 edition of ‘Scotland the Best,’ compiled by author and leading event organiser Peter Irvine, praises the hotel’s food and “superb location” on the River Tay near Stanley.

It’s a true country-house hotel on the Tay that you fall in love with”, the book summarises. “Good dining, great fishing, good for a weekend away... You taste the Tay... Love the approach: red squirrels, copper beeches, golden corn.
The best selling travel guide’s latest edition, published in December, adds: “It’s handy for Perth and probably the best place to stay near the town.
Ballathie House Manager Christopher Longden commented: “We are proud to have been given such warm tributes by a highly regarded publication which commends the best there is in hotels, hospitality and food throughout Scotland.”
